STRING PLAYER
PRESENTING
Tim is in increasing demand to give talks and lecture recitals for music societies on a variety of musical topics. Tim has given pre-concert talks, as well as engaging with the audience regarding the chosen repertoire during concerts.
Tim’s areas of interest include historical performance (both in early music and in 20th century Britain), the development of the symphony and collaborations between composers and performers.

Young String Players
Tim regularly works with young people and coaches chamber music through Novacorda (summer courses) and as an orchestral tutor at Bristol Youth Orchestra. He also teaches violin and viola privately. He formerly taught as an upper strings peripatetic in West Glamorgan.

Trainee Music Teachers
Tim enjoys working closely with trainee PGCE music teachers in the South West delivering courses on assessment in music, managing co-curricular in schools and conducting, as well as working with individuals as a mentor for longer periods. He works closely with the universities of Bristol, Bath Spa and Buckingham.

A-Level Music Students
For those students wishing to pursue music as a degree, Tim regularly provides guidance, support and preparation for higher education music applicants. He coaches both conservatoire auditions and university interviews (often for those wishing to read music at Oxbridge). He also supports students with the Music A-Level course content and composition.
VIOLA PLAYER
Tim studied as a post-graduate viola player at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, where his final recital on the viola was a distinction. He also holds a performance diploma of the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music. He is an experienced orchestral and quartet player (with the Bristol String Quartet) and frequently works freelance in the South West on the violin, viola and Baroque viola. As an ensemble member he has previously played with Sinfonia Cymru, Chamber Orchestra of Wales, Brandon Hill Chamber Orchestra, Cardiff Sinfonietta, National Youth Orchestra of Wales, University of Bristol Symphony Orchestra, Royal Welsh College Symphony Orchestra and Cardiff Badinerie. He frequently plays with freelance groups in festivals, accompanying choral societies and alongside solo artists. Tim also plays the violin in show bands for musicals, leading productions of Evita, Gypsy, West Side Story, Oliver and Guys and Dolls in recent years. He has played at many prestigious events such as the Three Choirs Festival, opening of the Welsh Parliament (Senedd), The Houses of Parliament and the Welsh Proms. He has also played in major concert venues abroad including the Berlin Konzerthaus and William Walton’s estate in Ischia. He has been the recipient of the Afan Thomas memorial award and Vera Smart award for chamber music.
